My Copywriter’s Core: The Values That Shape My Business – Passion

I’ve lived my life encouraged to find and pursue the things I’m passionate about, and I

wholeheartedly believe that’s a key to feeling fulfilled in your career and in life more broadly.

On a fundamental, soul-deep level, one of those passions for me has always been writing,

using those words to evoke experiences, share stories, and express myself in a world that

isn’t always welcoming or designed for me to succeed as a disabled person. English was

always my “best” (academically speaking) and favourite subject throughout school and

became my path at university, because I knew one day, in some shape or form, that I wanted

to shape my career around my passion, and I’ve been privileged to do that, first in the

healthcare sector, then in the arts industry, and now through running my own business and

thus it’s only right that passion has formed the next element of my copywriter’s core and the

values that shape my business.

You’re probably thinking, “Every entrepreneur would likely describe themselves as

passionate… passion alone does not a business make”. A fair point, but let me make a case

for how passion feeds and shows itself in the copywriting and content creation business, and

why it makes such a difference to the quality of the work I create, the direction I’m heading

in, and the relationships I foster through every stage of working with me.

Passion Fuels Resilience & Consistency

Copywriting isn’t simply about the brilliant words that tell stories or sell yourself, your product

or your stories- in fact, I’d argue that’s the result. To get to that point, you first have to

overcome the idea that a blank page can be intimidating, and let the fear fade when you start

typing. When you’re passionate about what you’re working on, it fuels your resilience: you

adapt to shifting deadlines, last-minute bursts of inspiration, or changes to scope from

clients, and you dive deep into your research… all because you’re determined to deliver your

best for them. Passion also creates consistency in habit: you show up with energy and

creativity when you’re excited by what you’re working on.

All of these qualities help strengthen a relationship with clients, because it makes for a

smoother and more enjoyable collaboration.

It Fosters Curiosity

Though my business specialism is rooted in the theatre industry, my journey in shaping it

has seen me pivot to ensure I can offer all my services across sectors. I have clients in web

design, garden design and maintenance, and disability services, and look forward to

expanding my portfolio further! One of the things my academic background helped instil and

foster in me is voracious curiosity and love for learning, particularly when it comes to

industries I’m not especially familiar with; I especially love to research thoroughly and that

ultimately strengthens the quality of the copy and content I produce; it also means the

questions I ask my clients go deeper and help us fully refine and execute their ideas and

vision in a way that captures not just their excitement, but their customers too! That helps my

business stand out in a competitive market, and ensures impact not just words.

Refining The Craft and Building A Brand

Passion means you don’t settle for purely “good enough”, you refine, you experiment and

bring your best ideas to the party, focusing on clarity, precision and emotion. You show up

with a voice that feels vibrant, engaging and alive. That energy will be felt by potential clients

who are looking for someone who loves what they do, because they’ll notice the difference.

My passion means I care deeply about outcomes and strong relationships with my clients,

not just the deliverables, and ultimately that creates trust, which is integral for repeat

business.

The Client’s Experience

Passion shows itself in copywriting and content creation in a raft of subtle yet meaningful

ways:

  • More compelling angles and sharper hooks

  • Clearer messaging

  • Deeper empathy

The principal here is making sure the client feels confident and heard: I don’t just gather

information, I’m learning to embody my client’s voice, mission and appeal to their audience,

and thus can tailor my work accordingly, and therein we’ll drive for and see better results.
